Man finds Xiongnu tomb cover in his backyard

A tomb cover of Xiongnu period was discovered in a household backyard of the 15th bag of Darkhan soum, Darkhan-Uul aimag.

A
man stumbled across the tomb cover in September 2018 while digging a latrine.
He contacted researchers and archaeologists of local museum. At that time it
was known that the finding was ancient, but exact details including date and
purpose of the finding were unknown, so it was placed in the provincial museum
and then sent to the
Center of Cultural Heritage
of Mongolia.

Director of the museum Dr. D.Jambaldorj “Currently, the restoration work is ongoing in Ulaanbaatar. After repairing the broken and damaged parts, it will be placed at the museum of Darkhan-Uul aimag,”

As a result of examination, paleontologists and archaeologists identified it as Xiongnu tomb cover. The tomb cover is round and the inside was covered with soot as incense had been burned in it.
