Mongolian Fine Art Masterpiece “Botgon tsagaan uuls”
视频MONTSAME
National News Agency in cooperation with the Mongolian National Modern Art
Gallery is presenting a series of Mongolian fine art masterpieces. This time,
we are presenting the painting, ‘Botgon tsagaan uuls (Cloud like a white
calf)’, by State Honored Cultural Figure M.Butemj.
Painted on canvas sized
145x180 cm by using oil paint in 1977, it depicts the traditional style of
painting in Mongolian art. Having great majestic clouds that cover two-thirds
of the painting, it is unique with its deep symbolism behind the depiction of a
natural scenery. It is as if rain is about to fall in just a few moments from
the heavy grey clouds, and a mother camel that separated from the herd, is seen
slowly walking with her calf in the dunes.
Reminding Mongolian folk tale
‘Orphaned white calf’ folk tale, the painting illustrates the unique features
of the traditional art style through the movement of the clouds and the layout
of the painting. Mother nature is recovering thanks to the rain and the mother
camel and calf that are wandering along the borderless sand dunes are looked
like incarnations of deities. With the mother and baby that is separated in the
tales, the painting depicts the
special bond, love and affection between mother nature and human beings.
As it brought symbolism,
characters of folk tales as well as the traditional and modern art styles all
together in one canvas, the painting looks praising the glory of mother nature
with its harmonious colors.
Butemj Mijid was born in Yuruu soum of Selenge province in
1942. His illustration of Mongolian banknotes in 1992 are the original design
of banknotes being currently used.
