SocietyUlaanbaatar, December 24, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Japan Sumo Association (JSA) has released its Banzuke (a document listing the rankings of professional sumo wrestlers) for the first Grand Sumo tournament in 2025.
A total of 21 Mongolian sumo wrestlers will compete in four different divisions at the Hatsu Basho. Yokozuna Terunofuji G. Gan-Erdene is gearing up to return to the ring in the first tournament of the new year. However, the final call is pending due to reports that his injury has not fully recovered.
Meanwhile, Ozeki Hoshoryu S. Byambasuren will make his attempt for the Yokozuna title next month. Kirishima B. Lkhagvasuren, who was relegated from Ozeki to Sekiwake, has slid further in rank to the top of the right-hand side of the Maegashira division.
