Ulaanbaatar, November 28, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of His Holiness, Sovereign of the Holy See Pope Leo XIV, President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh will pay a State Visit to the Holy See on December 4, 2025.
During the visit, the two Heads of State will hold an official meeting. Also, the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin will pay a courtesy call on President Khurelsukh.
Diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Holy See were established on April 4, 1992. Over the past three decades, bilateral relations and cooperation have grown steadily in the fields of culture, education, health, and humanitarian affairs.
In 2023, at the invitation of President Khurelsukh, His Holiness Pope Francis paid a historic State Visit to Mongolia, further strengthening cooperation rooted in nearly 800 years of historical ties between the two countries.
The letter sent by Pope Innocent IV to Great Khaan Guyug in 1245, along with the reply delivered to the Pope in 1246, are considered valuable primary sources demonstrating early contact between the two sides.
According to the Presidential Office, the upcoming visit will be the first State Visit by the Head of State of Mongolia to the Holy See in 14 years.
