Speaker Enkhbold gives interview to “Vmeste RF” channelPolitics
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On the sidelines of his official visit to Russia, the Chairman of the State Great Khural Z.Enkhbold gave interview to the “Vmeste RF” TV channel on September 21.
The interviewer asked the Speaker about the possibilities of deepening the “balanced” cooperation between Mongolia and Russia in a form of trilateral relations, “in these times of intensified interactions between Moscow and Beijing".
Z.Enkhbold highlighted that Russia and China are the eternal neighbors of Mongolia and said that the priority of Mongolia’s foreign policy is to deepen the strategic partnerships with the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, based on the principles of mutual respect and good neighbor relations.
Dushanbe’s trilateral meeting of Mongolia, Russia and China was the latest initiative for enriching the relations with brand new contents, he noted, "the heads of three states met once again in Ufa last July".
He said that promoting transit highways, railways and pipelines through Mongolia, connecting Russia and China, will be the most economically efficient shortcut for international transport. The trilateral relations have been intensifying in many spheres, such as transit transport, railroads, tourism and energy production.
When asked about the implementation of the Declaration on the Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and Russia, signed during the Russian president’s visit to Mongolia in 2009, the Speaker said there certain fields such as the economic sector that need special attention, although the relations have been prospering consistently.
He suggested that the legislatures of the two countries focus on increasing the trade volume and on creating favorable legal and economic environments for business cooperation.
The interviewer asked, recalling the visit of the Chair of Federal Council V.I.Matvienko to Ulaanbaatar last year, “what has been accomplished on strengthening the interactions between parliaments and their standing committees?”
Dialogues between the State Great Khural and the State Duma have been intensively developing, said the Speaker. Mentioning that the latest meeting of the friendship groups of the legislatures took place in Chita of Russia, he expressed a confidence in the ever-strengthening relations between the two parliaments.
The interviewer pointed out the sharp fall in the trade volume of the two countries, and asked what steps have been taken in efforts to diminish this situation.
In response, Speaker Z.Enkhbold noted he and V.I.Matvienko agreed that there is an immediate need to forward the cooperation in trade and economy. Trade volume of approximately 1.6 billion USD decreased by 20 percent in the first half of 2015. Although the decrease is directly connected with the world economic decline, our two countries have resourceful possibilities to correct the situation, underlined the Speaker.
Mongolia had exported certain range of products to the former USSR. However, he said, the amount of goods exported to Russia has been decreasing dramatically in the last 20 years due to the tariffs.
Mrs Matvienko pledged to consider the issue, he said.
