Head of defense sphere at “Hour of Minister” meeting

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A legal landscape has been created to upgrade laws on defense in conjunction with an approval of the Fundamentals of Defense Policy of Mongolia in 2015, said Ts.Tsolmon, the Minister of Defense, at the “Hour of Minister” weekly meeting, on Thursday.

This Ministry has worked out bills on defense, on the Armed Forces, on military services, and a draft new wording of the legal status of servant, and transferred them to the Presidential Office, Tsolmon said.

The Ministry is about to submit a draft amendment to the law on pension and allowance for military servants, and has been formulating a programme on developing the Armed Forces until 2030, Tsolmon went on.

The Minister said construction and engineering battalions will be established in Arkhangai and Gobi-Altai aimags to take part in the great construction, peacekeeping operations and humanitarian works. The cabinet's decisions have been made to expand the Orkhon aimag-based division of construction as the construction-engineering battalion and to set up a secondary-phase hospital at  Bayan-Olgii aimag-based military unit.

Moreover, a possibility has been sought to send an engineering company to peacekeeping operations, he added.

He also said the “Student-soldier” is continuing for two years, involving some 1,000 students so far, it will continue to involve students of localities' universities and institutes.

Thanks to a focus on social welfare of military servicemen and officers, apartments with 363 flats have been commissioned in the capital city, 40 flats--in Bayan-Olgii and 24 flats--in Zavkhan aimags. Other buildings have been erected for training center, canteen, military division and apartments, the Minister said.

Reflected in the 2012-2016 governmental action plan, the “Mongolian soldier-great construction” programme will continue. Within this programme, some 2,000 troops will be involved in railway constructions, Tsolmon said.
