Boxers to compete in Olympic qualification tournament

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Winners of the 2016 national boxing championship will participate in international tournament that will grant the Olympic quotas. The events will kick off this February 23 in Tangshan of China.

The Mongolian team comprises 12 male and female boxers who will fight in related weight categories’ bouts.

A gold and silver medalist of each bout will receive the quota to take part in the boxing events of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In the men’s divisions, one winner out of the two bronze medalists will get this right.

The second Olympic qualification tournament for women boxers will be the Women’s World Championship that will run in Astana of Kazakhstan. It will award quotas to first three winners of each bout.

The last Olympic qualification competitions for boxers will take place this June 14-16 in Baku of Azerbaijan. Five quotas will be given to boxers.

As of present, Mongolian boxers have won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the Olympic Games.
