Ulaanbaatar to host “Children of Asia” sports festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mayor S.Batbold and chairman of the organizing committee of the sports festival Mr Dmitry Yevgenievich Glushko held a meeting on October 5. Ulaanbaatar has been selected as the next host of Children of Asia International Sports Games.

The event has been organized since 1996 every four years in Yakutsk, Russia. On average, each games attract more than 4,500 teenage athletes, their coaches and trainers from 40 countries. They are challenged in 20 sports categories within ten days, said Mr Glushko. Mongolian national team has been taking active part in the games and have made it to the top five.

 Ulaanbaatar has been selected among many Asian cities as the host in consideration of its suitable location, climate and timing of organizing the games, he said.

The Mayor thanked the organizing committee for choosing our city to host such a prestigious international event and promised to start preparations as soon as possible. The constructions of the sports facilities for the Children of Asia will commence in 2017 and will be commissioned before 2020, the Mayor said.

Mongolia’s prominent athletes, namely, the Olympic Champions judoka N.Tuvshinbayar and boxer E.Badar-Uugan, Olympic silver medalist and World Champion of Judo Kh.Tsagaanbaatar have all started their international careers from the Children of Asia.
