‘Tourism Development Center’ to be established

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ It is understood that the advancement of tourism industry will enable creation of a sustainable and green development by diversifying the economy and increasing foreign cash in-flow and exports. Therefore, the Cabinet issued a resolution during its regular meeting on January 4 to establish ‘Tourism Development Center’, a state-run enterprise. 

Incorporating with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the enterprise’s functions and objectives will include ensuring the implementation of tourism policy, supporting the functions of the ministry, realizing various projects and programs, processing statistical database, conducting necessary researches, identifying target market, promoting Mongolia abroad and improving services and products for tourists.

It is observed that the most of the countries across the globe operates a national tourism institution. The Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism associates the existing lack of tourism development policy and inadequate implementation of tourism projects with the absence of a designated state-owned institution.

It was found that about 1.3 billion people travelled around the world in 2015 with prediction of the number reaching 1.8 billion by 2030. Tourism sector counts to 10 percent of global GDP, 30 percent of global commerce and 5 percent of tax income, ensuring employment for 1 person out of 11.
