Children’s writer J.Dashdondog nominated for Hans Christian Anderson Award

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ State Prize Laureate and State Honored Cultural Figure, children’s writer Jamba Dashdondog was included in the 33 nominations of 33 countries for the “Hans Christian Anderson Award” (HCAA), which is dubbed as "Nobel Prize for Children’s Literature”.

J.Dashdondog is nominated for this internationally respected award for the second time. From his works, “Gurvan maral” (The three fallow deers), “Ger” (Home), “Yesogchin”, “Khar shuvuunii tsagaan tuukh” (White tale of a black bird) and “Uuduu haysan chuluu” (Karma) are nominated in the HCAA 2018.

Jamba Dashdondog first published his novel “Argatai khuu” when he was in high school at the age of 17 and has written around hundred books and novels ever since, publishing over 30 books abroad. His noteworthy novels such as “Mom, Dad and Me”, “Aranzel zeerd”, “Stone legend” and “Tales on horseback”, as well as the songs “Hello”, “Bonfire”, “Goodnight” and “Goodbye” are well known among children in Mongolia.

Born in Burkhangai soum of Bulgan aimag in 1941, J.Dashdondog graduated from the National University of Mongolia in 1963.He has received Mongolian Writers’ Union award with his “Ar taigiin khuu” and “Mom, Dad and Me” novels in 1972, D.Natsagdorj award with “Aranzal zeerd” poem, MWU’s Golden Feather award with his “The camel with seven humps” and was rewarded with the State Honored Cultural Figure title in 2005.



Last year, when he became a State Prize Laureate, he said “When my mother was feeling down, she once told me that I would become a State Prize Laureate someday. That has become a reality. I remember my dad stood there thinking how far she has foreseen. And now, I’m here receiving this award with my child. I’m thankful for all the children who inspired me and grew up reading my stories”.

The Hans Christian Anderson Award is the highest international distinction given to authors and illustrators of children’s books. The award recognize lifelong achievement and are given to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important, lasting contribution to children’s literature.
