International scholars discussing Ganjuur studies

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An international scientific conference under the theme "The Buddha's teaching: The Study of Mongolian Ganjuur" opened on July 20. The Institute of History and Archeology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the International Association for Mongolian Studies organized the event.
Scholars, who study Ganjuur (also known as Kanjur) gathered in Ulaanbaatar for the first time with aim to put new facts and findings into scientific circulation, regarding the spread of handwritten and printed Ganjuurs and the translations; to enrich research theme of Mongol Ganjuur with studies' results, made from the views of history, philosophy, linguistics and literature; to broaden the scope of studies; as well as to conduct comprehensive study, combining international scientists' efforts.
President Kh.Battulga, conveyed a message to the participants, in which he said, Ganjuur is an incredible cultural heritage of Mongolians of many generations and written memorial that express their scope of wisdom and knowledge. I am very grateful that scholars, who conduct studies specifically on Ganjuur, gathered together, striving to reach to the depth of the teachings of Buddha. From the Great Mongolian Khaans to scholars of generations have been translating, studying and making researches of Ganjuur and Danjuur. Moreover, original texts and copies of Ganjuur and Danjuur are kept and being studied in many places around the world. Therefore, it is significant to gather all together to discuss. As a President, I will pay particular attention to Mongol studies and your contributions will be crucial to the development of Mongol studies”.
A total of 36 scholars from Mongolia, Russia, China, USA, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, UK, Ukraine and Japan are attending the conference.
In the framework of the conference, two exhibitions are on display at the National Library and at the Fine Arts Museum of Zanabazar.
