Symposium discusses construction of new sewage plant

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 22, the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development organized a symposium regarding the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant and agreed to present the conclusion to Prime Minister.

The symposium aimed to draft recommendations for a wastewater treatment plant project in Ulaanbaatar, as a follow-up of an instruction issued by Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh on October 17.

The meeting brought together over 30 representatives of government and non-government organizations including Kh.Badelkhan, Minister of Construction and Urban Development, B.Enkh-Amgalan, Senior Advisor to Prime Minister, D.Baljinnyam, Referent at the Department of Strategic Management at the Cabinet Secretariat, B.Bayarsaikhan, Director of National Development Agency, J.Gerelchuluun, Head of Tariff Division of the Water Services Regulatory Commission of Mongolia, J.Batbayasgalan, Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar in charge of Green Development and Air Pollution, Ts.Turkhuu, Director of Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, E.Sodontogos, National Coordinator for the National Secretariat for Development of the Second Compact agreement between Mongolia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Sh.Ganzorig, CEO of Prestige Engineering LLC and B.Solongo, Project Coordinator.

Three presentations under the themes - ‘The Current State and Future of the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant of Ulaanbaatar’, ‘Technical and Economic Assessment for Construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ulaanbaatar’ and ‘Progress of Development of the Second Compact Agreement’ were delivered at the meeting.

Following a question-and-answer session, the meeting adopted following decisions which will be consulted with the Prime Minister:

-To build a new wastewater treatment plant in Ulaanbaatar in accordance with the technical and economic assessment drafted by Artelia Ville & Transport company
-To finance the project a Government soft loan
-To implement the project with an ‘Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract
-To put the Mayor’s Office in charge of tasks of building the new plant and handling the odors near the functioning Wastewater Treatment Plant.
