Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) together with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) made an audit on energy savings of 15 companies and they concluded that total electricity of 260 million kWh worth MNT35 billion could be saved.

The audit, aimed at saving electricity and improving efficiency was conducted by the PwC professional services firm. The 15 audited companies included the Baganuur mine, Nalaikh Power Plant, Ulaanbaatar heating network, Gobi and Makhimpex companies.

“With funding from the GGGI, Indian experts made the audit for six months. Possible electricity savings of these 15 companies would equal to annual electricity production of Erdenet Power Plant. 10 per cent saving in a year calculated to save electricity of 700 million kWh,” said ERC chairman A.Tleikhan.

The project implementers estimated that investment of USD 58 million will be required for realization of electricity savings in Mongolia and the investment will be recovered only in three years. The electricity savings would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 620 thousand tons.

Within GGGI country program, a package of projects targeted to electricity savings will be implemented.
