Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is hosting an international scientific conference themed ‘International Immigration Trend and Challenges” in its building.

Head of the Immigration Agency D.Murun addressed the conference which is being co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs and the Mongolian Immigration Agency.

“The number of foreign nationals temporarily living in Mongolia should not be exceeding more than three percent of the Mongolian population. The largest numbers of foreign people residing in Mongolia are from China, North Korea, Russia and Vietnam. Currently 93 thousand foreigners are living in Mongolia. Over one million foreigners cross the Mongolian borders every year. In 2016, 471.3 thousand foreigners entered the borders, and 404 thousand of them were tourists. Unfortunately, foreigners who hold the tourism visa mostly from China, North Korea and Russia are working in the construction sector without official permission, and the number of such people is increasing recent years,” D.Murun said.

Mentioning that those foreigners who violated the visa regulations are deported, D.Murun reported 649 people were deported in the past three years. “In the first six months of this year, 148 people were deported, and 80 percent of them carried out business or being employed without permission while holding the tourism visas,” he said.
