Consultation ‘Mining in sustainable development’ takes place

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/On December 8, the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry organized a policy consultation themed ‘Mining in sustainable development’ with a purpose to define main issues in geology, exploration, mining and extractive and processing sector and measures to be taken further.  

After hosting four regional mining forums, the Ministry ran this policy consultation in Ulaanbaatar with the presence of representatives of Parliament, Government, Ministries, agencies, administrations of aimags and Ulaanbaatar city, businesses and non-government organizations. 

In the beginning of the consultation, Mining and Heavy Industry Minister D. Sumiyabazar recommended participants to take active part in the forum, defining fundamental issues of mining sector within the frame of governance, legislation, nature and environment, local-cooperation, infrastructure, investment system and submit proposals on how to develop it further and how to meet it with international practices.

The participants called a need to focus on making mining sector’s policy stable, transparent, inclusive and beneficial to public and local development in order to raise Mongolia’s competitiveness in international arena and fulfill Mongolia’s Sustainable Development Vision-2030.  They also requested the government to formulate ‘National program on minerals sector development’ within the first quarter of 2018 by reflecting basic actions to satisfy interrelations and cooperation between relevant sectors, and approve it.
