Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Pursuant to a Cabinet resolution, the General Authority for State Registration and Intellectual Property has ceased extension of regular international passport or passport for travel abroad starting this year.

On March 20, 2017, the Cabinet resolved to end  passport extension and issue travel documents newly with 5-year and 10-year validity periods.

This measure aimed to prevent the holders of extended international passport from possibly being denied international flights and entry to foreign countries.

Instead of extension, Mongolia is working on digitalization of passports, and cooperating with Hungary on the introduction of biometric international passports.
