Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On January 10, authorities of the Confederation of Mongolian Trade Unions (CMTU) announced to organize a nationwide demonstration against the increase of taxes, premiums of social insurance and retirement ages at Sukhbaatar square on January 12.

At a press conference, CMTU President Kh.Amgalanbaatar said: “Main purpose of the demonstration is to protest against the Parliament’s decision to increase seven types of taxes, premiums of social insurance and retirement ages. We began focusing on this matter from last March. Last May, a negotiation for trilateral agreement on labor and society commenced, but without a conclusion due to the Presidential election. It resumed on September 13, 2017, at which the parties reached agreement on reconsidering the retirement ages at government level. Unfortunately, certain clauses of the agreement are not being fulfilled; thus the CMTU made a decision to organize a nationwide protest.”
