Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/  Establishing a Mongolian consulate to the People’s Republic of China’s city of Manchuria was discussed during the yesterday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy. Member of Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar introduced the proposal.

The Consular Department of the Embassy of Mongolia in People's Republic of China, General consulate in Hohhot, consulate in Erlian are working to protect the rights of the citizens that are visiting, studying and working in China, also they are in charge of issuing visas to the foreigners that are travelling to Mongolia.

According to the decision of Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy on 1st of February 2017, the Consulate in Hailar city was closed in June last year and the consulate in Erlian has been charged to also cover Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's Hulunbuir and Hinggan aimags.

Consequently, workload of the consular in the city of Erlian will be increased significantly and in terms of distance, time and budget this can cause difficulties for protecting the rights of the citizens that are entering through Dornod and Dorngovi aimag's Sumber, Khavirga, Byankhoshuu and Hinngan border checkpoints.

The proposal of establishing a Mongolian Consulate in Manchuria, China was approved during a Cabinet meeting. The proposal has been also put officially to Chinese side, starting talks on  the issue and some expenses for the establishment of the consulate are reflected in the 2018 budget.

The majority of the members of the Standing Committee supported to establish Mongolian Consulate in Manchuria and decided to submit the notes of the meeting to the Government.
