Sub-Commission on Regional and Cross border Cooperation meets

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 13th Sub-Commission meeting on Regional and Cross border Cooperation between Mongolia and Russia was held on February 26 within the framework of the 21st Intergovernmental meeting on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technologic Cooperation of the two countries which is taking place on February 26-28, in Moscow, Russia.

At the meeting the parties agreed to intensify cross border trade and economic cooperation, to broaden operation of free trade zone, to collaborate in road, transport, agricultural and tourism spheres and to upgrade border checkpoint activity in order to make bilateral relations more effective. "The sides endorsed intergovernmental agreement on rendering support to regional and cross border cooperation and agreed to establish the agreement in nearest future. It means governments of Mongolia and Russia is making coordination to back their businessmen," said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg.

In addition, the delegates emphasized that the Mongolia-Russia-China economic corridor would be a leverage to intensify regional cooperation and agreed to support it fully. A Trilateral meeting of experts was scheduled to be organized in March in Ulaanbaatar

Furthermore, the parties decided to discuss regional cooperation, particularly free trade zone collaboration  during ‘Mongolia and Russian Initiatives 2018’ event to be held in June in Ulaanbaatar.

The same day, the 5th sub commission meeting on Education, Scientific and Technical cooperation was held. The meeting brought actual progress in collaboration in education, culture, science and sports field. Number of Mongolian students to study in Russian universities increased to 500. Moreover, the Russian side favorably accepted our proposal to prepare, specialize and retrain staffs, teachers, psychologists and speech therapist teachers of special needs secondary schools in Russia said D.Odgerel, Head of Science and Technology Policy Department of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports.
