‘Stone patterns-2 or Writings of stones’ exhibition on display

Mongolian chemist, mineralogist and journalist G.Gongorjav has opened an exhibition “Stone patterns-2 or Writings of stones”, displaying his stone collection on December 26. Mr Gongorjav has rich collection of rare and unique stones, collected over half a century from all over Mongolia during his extensive travel.

Stones having figures on it like cyrillic and latin alphabet letters, various animals in Mongolia, symbols related to nomadic culture, as well as things that could be called extraterrestrial were displayed in the exhibition.

Over 30 stones precisely reflecting some words and symbols from scripts of Armenian, Jewish, Hunnus, Uigar, Sogd, Tureg, Arabian and Chinese as well as artworks created by nature are on display.

Mr. G.Gongorjav, now 80 years old, has studied stones for over 50 years. He said, “Stones are said to be alive. They can contain beautiful drawings and words and this has kept me interested in them. There are many legends regarding properties of extraordinary stones. My aim is to encourage young generation to always be observant and care about our country’s mineral reserves.”

The exhibition is being  organized by Mongol Suvdan Sondor (Mongol pearl bead) project together with the  National Museum of History.

The exhibition will be open until January 8th, 2018 in the National Museum of History.
