Number of Vietnamese tourists to Mongolia increases by 28.4 percent

Ulaanbaatar /MOTNSAME/ In the first 9 months of 2018, 4.6 million passengers (double counting) have crossed the border of Mongolia, increased by 68.2 thousand or 1.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Of inbound passengers, 38.7 percent were crossed through Zamiin-Uud, 18.7 percent were crossed through Buyant-Ukhaa, 11.8% were crossed through Gashuunsukhait, 11.4 percent were crossed through Altanbulag, 5.9 percent were crossed through Shiveekhuren, 13.5 percent were crossed through other border points.


In the first 9 months of 2018, 485.6 thousand foreign passengers have entered through, increased by 45.7 thousand or 10.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Of those foreign passengers, 87.8 percent were stayed up to 30 days, 10.6 percent were stayed for 90 days or more, 1.6 percent were stayed for 30 to 90 days. By the purpose for entry of the foreign passengers, 431.7 thousand or 88.9 percent entered for tourism purposes, increased by 48.5 thousand or 12.7 percent, compared to the same period of 2017, and 53.9 thousand or 11.1 percent entered for business, study and permanent residence purposes. From the same period of 2017, the number of tourists from Thailand is increased by 628 persons or 54.8 percent, from Indonesia by 143 or 38.1 percent, from Turkey by 420 or 28.2 percent, whereas tourists from North Korea decreased by 401 or 57.0 percent, from Vietnam by 245 or 28.4 percent and from Austria by 237 by 16 percent.


Among all the inbound foreign passengers, 34.1 percent were Chinese, 21.0 percent were Russian, 15.8 percent were South Korean, 3.8 percent were Japanese, 3.4 percent were American, 2.9 percent were Kazakhs and 19.0 were other nationalities.
