10th Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival wraps up

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Co-organized by the Ulaanbaatar city Mayor’s Office, Arts and Culture Department of the Capital City and the Arts Council of Mongolia, the 10th Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival (UBIFF) has successfully wrapped up.  


Ever since the festival was made ‘international’ in 2013, the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival has presented 98 of the best films that received awards from well-known prestigious film festivals, such as those organized in Cannes, Berlin and Venice, to over 21,000 people as well as organizing workshops and seminars for film and enhancing the skills of 700 artists.


One of the advancements that was made for this year, was that the festival now has a president as well as a Mongolian and international artistic director. Another feature would be having included a Virtual Reality film in the programme. As Russia was selected as featured country for this festival, Leto by Kirill Serebrennikov, Rough Draft by Sergey Mokritsky and Jumpman by Ivan I.Tverdovsky were presented in cooperation with the Russian Film Export Agency.


The UBIFF announced two competitions: ‘Opening film competition’ and ‘Mongolian film competition’. The films were judged by a group of Mongolian and international film experts. Recipients of the awards were ‘They Sing up on the Hill’ by L.Bat-Amgalan and Ian Allerdyce for ‘Opening film’, ‘Cuckoo’ by L.Dashdoorov for ‘Best short film’, ‘Genghis Khan’ by B.Tengis for ‘Best feature length animation’ and ‘Life’ by J.Sengedorj for ‘Best feature film’.


In the frameworks of the festival, U.S lawyer Mr. Kenneth Cruz, Head of the Open Doors programme of the Locarno Film Festival Ms. Sophie Burdon and Swiss audio engineer Baltazar Jucker also organized workshops.


12 movies of countries, such as Australia, Argentina, Iceland, Chile and Japan, were shown to over 3,500 Mongolian viewers during the festival.
