Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy at its regular meeting held today, discussed and approved the proposal to consult on the establishment of Mongolian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar reported that relations and cooperation between Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates in politics, trade and economy as well as the frequency of bilateral high-level visits have been improving in recent years.

He said “The United Arab Emirates opened its Embassy in Ulaanbaatar two years ago. Some 102 countries operate their Embassies in Abu Dhabi and there are 52 consulates in Dubai. Presently, over 40 Mongolians are settled permanently in the country. As the number is expected to rise in the future, the Cabinet decided to establish an Embassy to protect the citizens’ legitimate rights and to deliver prompt consular services”

The Embassy is to have three employees initially and the Emirati side stated to be responsible for its expenses for the first three years. Thereafter, the operational expenses will be allocated from the state budget, added the Minister.

Some members of the committee expressed their views such as the broad opportunity of closely cooperating with UAE in training military personnel and that the Embassy shall mainly focus on attracting investment from the country as well as on developing trade and economic cooperation.

The majority of the members of the Standing Committee supported to establish Mongolian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and decided to submit the notes of the meeting to the Government.
