Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Economic Policy and Competitiveness Research Center (EPCRC) today presented the result of Provincial Competitiveness Report 2018.

The purpose of the report is to make a comparative evaluation of the current competitiveness of 21 provinces in Mongolia and define provincial competitiveness in a comprehensive way. Provinces are measured and ranked against 180 different criteria across four main categories: economic performance, governance efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. The report combines general and statistical data with the results of questionnaires distributed to the private sector by the EPCRC.

“Competitiveness report can be understood as a measure of development. This study identifies the strengths and weaknesses of each province and evaluates their potential to compete,” EPCRC Director P.Tsagaan said.

According to the report, Orkhon was the most competitive among the provinces whereas Arkhangai was at the bottom in the provincial rankings.

Infrastructure development of provinces had been the main factor to add scores for competitiveness in previous years, however, this year’s report showed that the provinces should pay more attention to the infrastructure.
