Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Ulaanbaatar Democracy Forum (UBDF) under the theme ‘Promoting Peace, Human Rights and Democracy through SDG16+:Towards Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies in Asia’ is taking place in Holiday Inn, Ulaanbaatar city, on February 26-28.

The UBDF is the second joint initiative of the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies (PSCD) Asia Development Alliance (ADA) and Asia Democracy Network (AND) with funding assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.

It has gathered more than 100 participants, including Asian governments, regional and global organizations to share experiences and best practice as they move forward on the implementation of SDG16.

Representing Mongolia, Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar and chief of National Human Rights Commission J.Byambadorj delivered remarks at the opening. In their remarks, they emphasized that during the Asian Ministerial Conference 2015 Mongolian government made an initiation to build a civil network in strengthening Asian democracy, and highlighted the importance of the UBDF.

The event builds on the discussions started at the Busan Democracy Forum, held January 2018 in Busan, Republic of Korea, to discuss democratic governance in Asia and proactively promote the implementation of Goal 16 of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to achieve more peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
