Letters' copies of Mongol khans to Popes handed over to Mongolian side
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Bishop Sergio Pagano, Prefect of the Vatican Secret Archives, handed over to the Ambassador of Mongolia to Italy Ts.Jambaldorj the copies of eight 13th-century letters of khans of the Ilkhanate to the Popes.
As a result of the relentless efforts by the Ambassador Ts.Jambaldorj and the Embassy officials over the past two years, historical documents related to the Mongol Empire kept in the Vatican Secret Archives will be delivered to the people of Mongolia.
The letters are of great importance in enriching national historical documents and historical research as well since they haven’t been publicly disclosed or subject to any research.
The parties agreed to further cooperate on discovering other documents related to the history of Mongolia in the Vatican Secret Archives.
