On June 13-15, the Sixth News Agencies World Congress is taking place in
Sofia, the Republic of Bulgaria, under the theme ‘The Future of News’. Being
organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), the congress is involving over
200 representatives from around 100 countries.
In his
opening remarks, BTA Director General Maxim Minchev said news journalism shall be
the last filter to today’s rampant false news, while highlighting that this
year’s largest media gathering is being held here in Sofia.
President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, at the opening, drew an analogy between news journalism and the duty of a fighter pilot, saying that it requires a fighter pilot to promptly collect and analyze information and arrive at a decision. Akin to that, the news you report is the most sought-after and valuable.
The first
edition of the News Agencies World Congress, which aims to develop cooperation between news
outlets in the five continents, explore ways for protecting their interests, exchange
information and experience, and encourage one another, was held in Moscow in
2004 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Russian News Agency TASS.
The National News Agency, MONTSAME, has been representing Mongolia at the conference. This
year, Deputy Director of MONTSAME Sh.Batbold and Head of the Policy Council
S.Bayarsaikhan are
attending the event.
Moreover, the agency's photographers' works depicting Mongolian culture, religion, and lifestyle are displayed at a photo exhibition being mounted during the
congress. The exhibition will be open until June 20 in Sofia.
