Farewell ceremony held for Mongolian athletes to Summer Universiade 2019

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On June 25, a ceremony to send off 33 athletes, 13 coaches and officials from seven sports for archery, shooting, judo, taekwondo, tennis, swimming and table tennis sport who will compete in the Summer Universiade to be held on July 03-14 in Napoli, Italy was organized at Central Library of National University of Mongolia.  


The farewell ceremony was attended by D. Bayasgalan, President of Mongolian Student Sports Federation (MSSF) and FISU Treasurer, His Excellency Mr. Andrea De Felip, Ambassador of Embassy of Italy to Mongolia, D.Jargalsaikhan, CIC vice chair of FISU, E. Badar-Uugan, Secretary General of Mongolian National Olympic committee, Board member of MSSF, heads of seven national sports federations, as well as others presenting their sincere greetings to all delegation members and wishes success to athletes and leaders.


During the ceremony, G.Nandinzaya, Kazan 2013 SU silver and bronze medalist and athlete of national shooting team, and P.Temuujin, RIO 2016 Olympic participant and athlete of national taekwondo team, took an oath on behalf of all Mongolian competitors.


MSSF handed to the athletes the sets of Spanish clothing brand ‘KELME’, which will be the sports uniforms of Mongolian athletes at Summer Universiade 2019. In addition, the Mongolian national flag was handed over to a flag holder Ts.Tsogtbaatar, RIO 2016 Olympic participant and athlete of national judo team.


The athletes were also granted some financial supports from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and Physical Culture and Sports Authority alongside the assistance from the Embassy of Italy to Mongolia, ‘Erdenes-Tavantolgoi’ JSC, Golomt Bank, ‘MIAT’ Mongolian Airlines, KELME and sports associations.


Student-athletes of Mongolia first began competing in the Summer Universiade, held in Budapest, Hungary in 1965. Since then, Mongolian athletes have participated in the total 21 of Summer Universiade, resulting in winning a total of 53 medals including 11 gold, 16 silver, and 26 bronze in nine sports. NUSF Mongolia has been actively working on the regular participation of athletes in Summer Universiade games.


The farewell ceremony was unique as this year marks 30th anniversary of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation.
