First steering committee meeting for Sustainable Tourism Development Project takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The first meeting of the steering committee of the Sustainable Tourism Development Project took place on December 2. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism is implementing the project in the framework of the loan agreement signed between the Government of Mongolia, and the Asian Development Bank.

 

The Sustainable Tourism Development Project is being implemented from 2019 to 2024 in aims of creating a national model example for developing sustainable development in the State Special Protected Areas of Mongolia, specifically the Khuvsgul Lake National Park of Khuvsgul aimag, and the Onon-Balj National Park of Khentii aimag, and comprehensively solving the matters of environmental protection, tourism and economy.

 

As according to the decree of the Minister of Environment and Tourism, the project steering committee was established with members consisting of officials of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, Ministry of Road and Transport, Ministry of Energy as well as representatives of civil society organizations, such as ‘Khuvsgul aimag Tourism Association’, ‘World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’, and ‘Mongolian Women’s Fund’.

 

Chaired by State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Head of Steering Committee Ts.Tsengel, the first committee meeting approved the project’s action plan for 2020, and the procurement and financial plans for 2019-2020.
