Davaadalai Tumendalai: Solid Construction Waste Can Be Recycled and Put Into Economic Circulation as Gravel and Aggregate
Environment
Ulaanbaatar, June 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. First Deputy Governor of the Capital City of Mongolia Davaadalai Tumendalai and other officials visited the site of the Waste Landfill Facility (WLF) and Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Plant (CDWRP) Complex in Morin Davaa, 12th khoroo of Khan-Uul district.
The facility is designed to receive 8.5 million tons of waste overall and can crush, sort, and recycle up to 150 tons of construction and demolition waste per day. Notably, the CDWRP is the only facility in Mongolia capable of recycling solid construction waste. The Complex comprises a new sanitary landfill, a construction and demolition waste crushing and sorting yard, a machinery garage, and an office building.
During the visit, First Deputy Governor of the Capital City of Mongolia Davaadalai Tumendalai said, “Around 1.6 million tons of waste are collected annually at Ulaanbaatar’s three centralized landfill sites. We are currently recycling only 11.4 percent of this waste, while 88.6 percent is buried. Construction waste accounts for 20-30 percent of the total waste. By processing solid waste into gravel and aggregate for reuse, we can bring materials back into economic circulation, reduce the number of landfill sites, lower carbon dioxide emissions, conserve water and energy, and create stable jobs. This makes the Project highly important and beneficial.”
