Mongolian studies at Harvard to be resumed

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports established a Memorandum of Cooperation with the world’s leading Harvard University on promoting Mongolian studies. Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg and Mark C. Elliott, Mark Schwartz Professor of Chinese and Inner Asian History and Vice Provost for International Affairs signed the memorandum.
In accordance with the Memorandum, a series of measures will be taken to develop Mongolian studies at the Harvard University, with D.Zayabaatar, Director of the National University of Mongolia (NUM) School of Sciences and Director of Institute of Mongolian Studies at the NUM working as a supervisor from the Mongolian side.
The Harvard University has a long tradition of Mongolian Studies and prominent American scholar of Mongolian studies Francis Woodman Cleaves, who is the founder of Mongolian studies in America and conducted a series of studies of old Mongolian texts and inscriptions, used to work there.
During the meeting with the Harvard University, the sides talked about conducting research on the Francis Cleaves’s library collection that has been kept at a Christian Church.
Thanks to initiatives and significant efforts by Professor Mark Elliott, an expert of the New Qing History school and Manchu history, Mongolian studies at the Harvard University has now embarked on the path forward restoration.
