Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. MONTSAME National News Agency names top 11 events happened in the country throughout the year of 2019.


1.The HU promotes Mongolia around the world



The Hu band who created the Hunnu rock music genre by blending the Mongolian traditional cultural heritage and folk arts of musical instruments with modern metal music has promoted Mongolia to the music lovers from all around the world. The band’s two hits ‘Yuve Yuve Yu’ and ‘Wolf Totem’ which were released in autumn 2018, received over 20 million views each on YouTube within only one month. On April 11 of this year, their song Wolf Totem’ became the first Mongolian song that ranked 1st in the Billboard Hard Rock songs chart. In addition to this, The Hu band’s debut album ‘Gereg’ reached number one in the World Albums chart of Billboard within half a month by its sale.


2. Mongolia-U.S. relations reach strategic partnership



In 2019, President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga paid state and official visits to the People’s Republic of China, United States of America, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of India, and the Russian Federation and held meetings with the heads of the countries that are leading in their regions and the world.


During his state visit to the United States, the President held a meeting with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump and declared the relationship between Mongolia and the United States to be a strategic partnership.


3. Russia supports proposal to pass natural gas pipeline through Mongolian territory 



Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh paid an official visit to the Russian Federation on December 3-6.


As a result of the visit, Russian side expressed its full support for the proposal to run the natural gas pipeline between the two neighbors through the territory of Mongolia within the framework of Mongolia- Russia -China Economic Corridor Program. The sides came into decision to commence its economic impact analysis and feasibility studies of the project.

 

4. 80th anniversary of the Victory of Khalkhin Gol Battle and V.Putin’s visit 



On September 3, President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin paid an official visit to Mongolia at the invitation of President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga within the framework of the 80th anniversary of the Mongolia-Soviet joint victory of the Khalkhin Gol Battle.


The bilateral relations and cooperation of the two countries have reached to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as the heads of state of Mongolia and Russia signed a treaty between Mongolia and the Russian Federation on Friendly Relations and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

 

5. Infrastructure of oil refinery, and new airport highway put into operation



With the 27 km railroad connecting the oil refinery located in Altanshiree soum of Dornogobi aimag with Sainshand city, 17 km auto road with heavy load carrying capacity, and 110 kWt power transmission line put into operation, the conditions for oil refinery construction work set in place as it became possible to transport various equipment and materials to the site. 


6. The Constitution of Mongolia amended 



Mongolia’s Parliament approved the Constitutional amendments during its plenary meeting on November 14. President Kh.Battulga endorsed the Constitutional amendments on November 26, which will come into effect at noon of May 25, 2020.


 7. Mongolian inscription in the State House, Hunnu silver dragon in the world




The Khuis Tolgoi inscriptions which regarded as the most ancient archaeological discovery or 1400 years old, have been placed at the State House.


Two silver dragons excavated in a lavish tomb in Balgasyn tal, Undur-Ulaan soum, Arkhangai aimag, have been included in the list of top 10 archaeological discoveries by the Archaeology magazine of the Archaeological Institute of America.


8. Women’s basketball team qualifies for Olympics for the first time



Mongolian female basketball players secured an Olympic spot for the very first time in the history of Mongolian team sports.

Mongolian national 3x3 women's team directly qualified for Tokyo 2020 with its ranking.


9. Mongolia-Japan Teaching Hospital opens to the public



A new chapter began in the history of the health sector of Mongolia with the Mongolia-Japan Teaching Hospital opening to the public on October 1, 2019. The hospital offers a total of 1,042 types of medical services in 17 medical specialties. 


10. Achievement made to reduce air pollution in Ulaanbaatar city



Raw coal is banned in Ulaanbaatar city starting from May 15, 2019 and refined coal consumption has been introduced. It gives good results in reducing air pollution in the capital.

 

11. Making Airag in Khokhuur inscribed on the UNESCO List 



At the 14th Session of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, that took place on December 11 in Bogota city of Colombia, Mongolian traditional technique of making Airag in Khokhuur and its associated customs has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
