On January 29, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Yo.Baatarbileg made a statement regarding the decision of the Cabinet and the State Emergency Commission to close all schools and kindergartens and cancel all kinds of public gatherings from January 27, 2020 to March 2, 2020.

He said, “The 2020 summer vacation will start as scheduled and its start date will not be postponed because of the temporary break. Spring (third semester) break will be shortened to a week. To make-up for the lost days, schools will be open and classes will be in session every Saturday in the third and fourth semesters and teachers will receive overtime pay. During the temporary closure of schools until March 2, teleclasses that can be re-watched at a later time will be provided on 18 television channels. We instructed teachers to work with their students by means of phone or email to ensure the children are properly taking the classes. They will receive full-time pay and benefits. Variable costs except mid-day meal costs of the schools and kindergartens will be covered by the state. I strongly advise parents not to take their children to public spaces or camps, but to pay attention to their studies at home”
