Ulaanbaatar residents able to vote for priority local development projects for 2021

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On March 02, Ulaanbaatar city municipality officials delivered a press conference on the launch of E-voting on Local Development Funded projects for 2021 through ‘Smart UB’ mobile application. 


The online voting mechanism expanded to a broader local community public in Ulaanbaatar city is being implemented for the second time with support from the Ulaanbaatar city Governor’s Office and the Swiss Development Agency. 


Through the mobile application, citizens aged 18 and above residing in 173 khoroos of nine districts of the city are able to vote and propose for local development funded development and infrastructure projects to be carried out in 2021 with local development funds, contributing to the decision-making process. The e-voting continues until April 1, 2020. 


Head of the Development Policy and Planning Department of the Ulaanbaatar Governor’s Office N.Otgonbayar said at the press briefing “Residents know best about the problems in their living areas that require immediate action. Therefore, the projects with the most number of votes in the e-voting will be selected for implementation in 2021”. 


Before e-voting system was introduced enabling every citizen to vote, each household was entitled to only one vote. 


In 2019, the e-voting application was employed in 42 khoroos of the city, involving around 76 thousand residents out of 176 thousand eligible citizens. A greater part of the voters proposed to install more street surveillance cameras in public places, improve Ger district planning, green areas, children playgrounds and street lightning.
