Ministry of Health gives update on coronavirus situation in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On March 20, Ministry of Health held its daily briefing on the situations around Covid-19. 


D.Nyamkhuu, Director of the National Research Center of Communicable Diseases (NRCD) informed that 983 Mongolian nationals who returned Mongolia on government arranged charter flights from Tokyo, Berlin, Seoul and Istanbul, along with cabin crews are in isolation under medical supervision. 


As four people who were on board the flight from Berlin were tested positive coronavirus, 75 people, who were identified to be have had a close contact with them, were all tested negative for coronavirus. 


According to the temporary regulations issued by the State Emergency Commission, close contacts are defined as anyone who has been within one meter of a person infected with the virus within four days prior to or one day after the person is tested positive. 


156 passengers aboard the last evacuation flight from Istanbul, landed on March 19, is currently being tested and 24 people were already tested negative. 


The Ministry of Health today also reported that testing for each person cost approximately MNT 169 thousand and a total of MNT 700 million has been spent for coronavirus testing since January 09. 


Since Mongolians studying and living in Russia have been allowed to return home across two of the country’s border checkpoints upon permission, a large number of students have submitted their requests to the Mongolian Embassy or Consular offices. Considering this, isolation facilities are being prepared to receive them and place under mandatory quarantine for two weeks in border regions of Selenge, Orkhon, Drakhan-Uul and Bayan-Ulgii aimags. 


Right at this moment, 197 including, the six Covid-19 patients and suspected cases, are under isolation at the NRCD in Ulaanbaatar.
