In this edition of the series ‘Mongolian Fine Art Masterpiece’ brought to you by MONTSAME News Agency in cooperation with Mongolian National Art Gallery, we are presenting a painting entitled “In the Mountain” by State Prize Laureate, People’s Painter, State Honored Cultural Figure O.Tsevegjav.

Artist O.Tsevegjav created “In the Mountain” in 1957 on a 100x75 cm canvas using oil paint, depicting the life and work of the youth pulling trees from a snowy mountain in the cold of winter.

The artist designed the work with a unique visual angle solution and skillfully painted with a brush, which highlighted the rhythm of energy and movement. The painting is considered as one of the first works of romanticism in modern Mongolian painting and the artist used an “S” –shaped design solution in a vertical format and performed it in an intense style, giving the audience a sense of rhythm, freshness and ardency.

A well-known representative of the Mongolian “Genre Painting” O.Tsevegjav laid the cornerstone of modern Mongolian fine arts and was one of the first seven founders of the Department of Fine Arts in 1942.

He studied painting at the Teacher’s Institute in the 1930s. Researchers point out that he made a valuable contribution to the development of realism in Mongolian painting with his dozens of works in “Genre Painting”, combining rural life and the lifestyle of herders with the depiction of animals.
