"Coal exported across Gashuusukhait border checkpoint since March 23 at 2.9 million tons"

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At the press briefing of the COVID-19 operative team of the State Emergency Commission held today, June 10, officials from the Specialized Inspection Agency delivered information on the inspection campaign being held to prevent from the COVID-19 infections.


“Estimated 25-300 tons of non-food products carried by 20-30 cargo trains and 1.300 freight trucks are imported daily through Mongolia’s border crossing points for auto vehicles and rail trains. The corresponding staff are constantly conducting inspection on the imported goods, proper disinfection and monitoring the health conditions of the drivers.” reports the Agency. 


The inspection agency is also inspecting mineral and food products entering the country and disinfecting and sanitizing the vehicles carrying them.


On March 23, the temporarily-suspended Gashuunsukhait checkpoint in Umnugobi aimag bordering with China reopened, resuming mineral exports. Since then, around 2.9 million tons of coal on 26,965 vehicles, and 291,817 tons of copper concentrates on 8,250 vehicles have been exported abroad. Daily traffic of coal carrying vehicles across the Gashuunsukhait reach 420-470, while around 64-96 vehicles move through the border point carrying copper concentrate each day.
