Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister of Mongolia worked in Delger and Esonbulag soums of Gobi-Altai aimag on October 8. After attending the launch ceremony of the new 126.7 km paved road from Baidrag bridge in Bayankhongor aimag to Delger soum of Gobi-Altai aimag, the Prime Minister held a meeting with local residents in Altai soum, Gobi-Altai aimag to introduce government action plan for the next 4 years and social and economic policies. He then presented 8 most pressing issues that need to be tackled in the next 4-18 years, as determined by the government.

1.     To end energy dependency – To reduce energy imports, increase domestic energy production to meet domestic demands, and further for export. Within this target, ten power plants will be built in 10 aimags and developments are already underway in Darkhan, Erdenet, Gobi-Altai and Khovd and a power plant for the Oyu Tolgoi and Tavan Tolgoi deposits.

2.     To produce petroleum products domestically – In this sphere, an oil refinery with annual capacity of 1.5 million tons is under development in Altanshiree soum, Dornogobi aimag.

3.     To amplify food production to fully satisfy domestic needs – Domestic demands of wheat and flour have been fulfilled entirely with domestic sources. With the promotion of agricultural and farming industries and the intensive livestock and farming, the food need is expected to be 100 percent satisfied with domestic production.

4.     To become ‘Digital Mongolia’ – Information and communications technology to be supported and government and other types of services to become electronic. An example is a recent launch of e-Mongolia digital platform of government services.

5.     To build a large number of processing factories – Public-private partnership to be promoted aligned with the policy to support ‘wealth-makers’ and domestic producers.

6.     Gas pipeline – A decision has been already made to build a gas pipeline between Russia and China across Mongolia. A goal to build tripartite economic corridor of Mongolia-Russia-China to be fulfilled.

7.     To ensure social justice – Accountability, integrity and discipline of the civil service as well as in all areas of the society to be upheld.

8.     To intensify work of enlightenment –Public education to be on the focus, including of the children and young people.

“If we manage to solve these problems in the next 4-12 years, the foundation for Mongolia’s extensive development will be provided, creating favorable and safe living environment for the people” said PM Khurelsukh. The officials of the Gobi-Altai aimag administration put forth some urgent requests to the PM, such as earmarking financial investment for the 20km branch line for thermal power plant, renovation of the treatment center, retention bonus for public service employees, commercializing locally-owned coal deposits and an immediate opening of water supply center, etc.
