Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In aims of increasing the opportunity for the public to acquire information about donating blood and making the process easier, Facebook has introduced the Blood Donations feature for those in Mongolia in partnership with the Ministry of Health.

The Blood Donations feature will notify users about nearby requests for blood donations from blood centers as well as opportunities to donate blood. Through the feature, organizations are also able to send a request to blood centers to organize blood donation events.

Ministry of Health T.Munkhsaikhan said, “The Government of Mongolia and the Ministry of Health are working to fulfill its legal obligations to ensure the implementation of the legislation on blood donors, to create reserves of blood, blood products, and replacement fluids for emergencies, to ensure blood safety, and to organize corresponding activities comprehensively.

An example of the government’s consistent focus on ensuring blood safety and creating blood reserves is the renovation of the National Blood Center and 26 local blood centers, provision of equipment, and training for personnel in the framework of the Fifth Health Sector Development Project being implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank.

Head of Public Policy for Mongolia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan at Facebook George Chen said, “We are happy to be cooperating with the Ministry of Health in protecting public health as well as a part of the countermeasures being taken against COVID-19 by introducing the Blood Donations feature in the Facebook application. Facebook has been continuously running its operations in aims of bringing information to all users and connecting them through our platform. As keeping blood reserves at a sufficient level is an issue that continuously arises in the health care sector, the number of blood donors would increase by providing information about where and when people can donate their blood, making a significant contribution to keeping the issue at bay.”

So far, more than 70 million people have signed up to be blood donors on Facebook. To learn more and sign up, visit facebook.com/donateblood
