Joint working group of transport cooperation convenes
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The joint working group on transport
cooperation of the Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Trade,
Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation convened its 15th meeting virtually
on November 3-10 to review bilateral road and transport cooperation in 2020 and
discuss its action plan for the coming year.
To expand bilateral road and transport cooperation, the
sides agreed to take certain steps including developing coherently the capacity of Sukhbaatar railway station of Mongolia and Naushki railway station of Russia.
During the meeting,
Deputy Minister of Road and Transport Development J.Bat-Erdene said, “Over the
past period, the scope of Ulaanbaatar Railway Mongolian-Russian joint venture’s activities have expanded and the freight volume amounted to 28.1
million tons last year with projections to go up further. These changes make it
necessary to improve the operational capacity of the company with major
upgrades and increase of its rolling stock fleet”
He also underlined that the Agreement on training of
Mongolian students in railway engineering signed by the transport ministries of
the two countries during Mongolian Prime Minister’s visit to Russia will be of great importance in railway development of Mongolia.
The sides also exchanged views on holding a
Mongolia-Russia-China virtual meeting on road transport within this year.
