Chain mail of Amarsanaa of Oirat

Uvs /MONTSAME/. The chain mail used by the hero Amarsanaa of Oirat in 1750s is being kept in the Museum of Uvs aimag. The chain mail is made of metal, the length from collar to skirt is 63 cm and weighs 10.35 kg.


The hero Amarsanaa of Oirat was one of the leaders of the Mongolian people's rebellion for national freedom and independence in 1755-1758 against Manchu Qing dynasty. Amarsanaa was born in 1723 to a noble mother from the Dzungar-Oirat tribe and crown prince of the Khoit-Oirat clan.


In 1957, Daram, an employee of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and B.Sambuu, an employee of the local museum of Uvs aimag, obtained Amarsanaa's chain mail and gun from Minchee, the sister of Tserendelger Taij, a descendant of Bayanmunkh Noyon of Zuungobi soum and gave the chain mail to the local museum and gun to the National History Museum.
