Oyu Tolgoi awarded 30 students with full scholarship

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On December 25, Oyu Tolgoi awarded 30 students with its company scholarship reaffirming its vision, “Natural resources to enduring value, knowledge and skill” for Mongolia.


Since 2010 the company has provided scholarships and other educational benefits to 3,252 students by its tailored leadership and career development programmes.


Oyu Tolgoi scholarships consists of full academic year tuition, monthly allowance and living expenses for rural students on a needs basis.


This year the scholarship award ceremony was held virtually where 20 students received a scholarship to study at the university of their choice and ten students will be studying a new curriculum on mining geotech at the Mongolian National University of Science and Technology developed under the MoU between the mine and the university.


The purpose of this programme is to prepare globally competitive geotechnical engineers locally, using resources and training at the world-class Oyu Tolgoi mine.


Scholarship recipients will also be given an opportunity to enroll in Oyu Tolgoi’s Youth Development Programme designed for their personal development.


Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Mongolia's largest copper and gold mining company, is a strategic partnership between the Government of Mongolia, Turquoise Hill Resources and Rio Tinto. Located in the South Gobi, Oyu Tolgoi commenced shipment of product to customers in July 2013. Oyu Tolgoi is managed by Rio Tinto, which is investing global expertise and cutting-edge technology to help develop Mongolia’s mining industry and ensure Oyu Tolgoi is one of the world’s most advanced mines.
