Cabinet meeting hears presentation on school meals

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. This academic year, 59 percent of all general education schools are serving its students with hot meals, 20 percent with convenience food and remaining are providing a mix of hot meals and prepared food. 


A total of 1,200 cooks and 400 assistant cooks are working to prepare foods for the ‘School Lunch’ program and for children living in school dormitories, and 350 cooks are currently being trained. 


A plan has been approved to undertake repairs and maintenance on canteens and provide equipment, and conclude rent agreements for the ‘School Lunch’ program services. 


There are a total of 680,000 students studying at over 840 schools nationwide and 360,000 of them are students of 1st to 5th grades. 


Regardless of school location, ownership type, students’ household income size, health conditions and citizenship, all primary school children are being involved in the School Lunch program, as introduced at the cabinet’s meeting held on January 20, 2021.
