Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/.  State Great Khural, the parliament of Mongolia, ratified the Paris Agreement on Climate Change on September 1, 2016. Within the framework of the agreement, Mongolia raised its target to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions to 22.7 percent by 2030, through updating its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), which was approved by the Government Decree No.407.

With that updated NDC, Mongolia is committed to enhance its mitigation efforts with policies and measures to be implemented in six key economic sectors - energy, industry, agriculture, waste management, construction, and transport.

Under this commitment, the construction industry of Mongolia is aiming to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 830,000 tons CO2 equivalents by 2030 and an experts’ team is developing a draft plan by an order from the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development to reach this target.

The 2021-2030 plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry will lay out detailed steps concerning the emission measurement and reduction, planning for climate-resilient cities and green cities and towns, evaluations, certification, funding and incentives for research and production of energy-efficient and environment-friendly technology, building materials and green building, and accommodating facilities to be built with state budget investment to green building standards.
