J.Gurragchaa awarded with the Order of Alexander Nevsky
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin issued a decree on conferring the Order of Alexander Nevsky upon Gurragchaa Jugderdemid, a national of Mongolia and President of Mongolia-Russia Friendship Society, in recognition of his merit in the development of Comprehensive Partnership between Mongolia and Russia.
Gurragchaa Jugderdemid, the second Asian and the 101st cosmonaut in the world to fly to the space, has become the first Mongolian to be awarded with the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the high state decoration of the Russian Federation.
Incidentally, the Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky was first issued in 1724 by the decree of Empress Catherina I and bestowed to officers of the army and ordinary citizens.
The September 7, 2010 Decree No 1099 of the President of the Russian Federation redesigned the badge of the Order closer to the pre-1917 imperial model and amended the statue of the Order making it purely a civilian award.
The Order of Alexander Nevsky is a 40 mm wide gold plated ruby enameled cross pattée. Between each cross arm, a gold double-headed eagle, the State Emblem of the Russian Federation. In the center of the observe, a circular convex medallion bearing the enameled figure of Prince Alexander Nevsky riding a white steed facing left. The order is manufactured at GOZNAK paper mill in Saint Petersburg.
