Commissioners, General Staff of Mongolian Armed Forces exchange views on human rights issues

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On May 4, Commissioners of the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia (NHRCM) held a meeting with officials of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces and exchanged views on ensuring and protecting human rights in the armed forces.


During the meeting, recent incidents of human rights violations in the military units were highlighted. The NHRCM stressed the need to further expand cooperation in the field of prevention and protection of human rights.


Parties agreed to conduct a study on “Causes and conditions of Irregular relations in State Military units and military organizations” aimed at strengthening the human rights education system and considered issues of conscript labor, oversight in the military units, and electoral rights were also of importance.


It was recommended to ensure infection prevention and control, intensify vaccination as well as enable conscripts to communicate online with their families and secure complaint handling mechanism in military units during COVID-19 pandemic.


The officials of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces expressed their readiness to pay attention to the issues raised by the Commissioners and reflect them in their activities and their support for further cooperation initiatives.
