Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The winners of the 5th National CanSat Competition were awarded today on June 7.

The competition was co-organized by the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications, the Mongolian Space Technology Association, the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Business Innovation Development Department of the Capital City, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and the National University of Mongolia, with ‘Mongolsat Networks’ LLC as the sponsor. The first edition of the national CanSat competition was organized in 2013.

The competition is unique for giving students majoring in space technology the core knowledge of physics and electronics in a very short amount of time.

“The event is also significant for supporting the development of space technology in Mongolia, strengthening the sector’s human resources, and promoting the science field to children, youth, and the public,” said Hero of Mongolian People’s Republic, Hero of USSR, cosmonaut J.Gurragchaa.

Certain stages of building satellites were included in this year’s CanSat competition, reported the organizers.

More specifically, the participating teams were involved in discussions on deciding the satellite’s trial and final designs as well as before their launch, from which they were awarded points at each stage.

With 12 teams of some 90 students from seven colleges and universities participating in the competition, teams of Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Shine Mongol Technology College, National Defense University, and Mongol Koosen Technology College led the competition’s CanSat category.

CanSat competitions are organized in over 20 countries around the world.
