Ulaanbaatar, August 28, 2023 /MONTSAME/. Australia will provide AUD 250 thousand in humanitarian assistance following the adverse humanitarian situation caused by severe flooding in Mongolia.

Australia will channel its assistance through the Mongolian Red Cross Society (MRCS) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Mongolia, which are supporting the response on the ground to provide relief for those affected.

“Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in the floods,” said Ms. Katie Smith, Australian Ambassador to Mongolia. “Australian and Mongolian people have a history of helping one another during difficult times. As a third neighbor and steadfast friend, Australia is committed to supporting Mongolia’s response efforts.”

MRCS will continue distributing food and non-food items to displaced families, supporting NEMA and other authorities with damage and impact assessments, and providing psychosocial support and referral services. UNFPA will provide dignity kits, which contain the most needed items to help women and girls maintain proper hygiene after being displaced and are a critical component of the UNFPA humanitarian response.
