Herders to Buy Fodder from the State Reserve with a 50 Percent Discount

Ulaanbaatar, December 14, 2023 /MONTSAME./  The Cabinet made a decision to provide livestock fodder to herders with a 50 percent discount. Governors of aimags and capital were tasked to monitor the proper distribution of fodder and prevent its misuse and sale.

 

This year, a total of 69.1 million head of livestock is estimated to overwinter in 190.1 thousand herder households. In preparation for winter, 7.8 million livestock of 18.8 thousand herder households have been assessed to winter in migration seeking for good pastures, however, due to heavy snowfalls, the migration is increasing. 

 

According to the Mongolia National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring on December 10, 2023, 70 percent of the total territory is at high risk of zud, 25 percent at moderate risk, and 5 percent at low risk. Also, 40 soums in 11 aimags suffer from white zud and 48 soums in 12 aimags and one remote district in Ulaanbaatar are at risk of experiencing zud.  

 

70 percent of Mongolia's territory is covered with snow, and winter and spring in 2023-2024 are forecasted to be challenging due to increasing cold, heavy snowfall, and snowstorms. 

 

Loans to be provided to meat and cashmere processing enterprises

A total of MNT 280 billion, which is required to provide loans to meat and cashmere processing enterprises, will be financed from commercial bank sources.

 

The loan with a term of 24 months will have an annual interest rate of 6 percent, and the state budget subsidy for interest rate should not exceed 13 percent per year in line with the policy rate determined by the Bank of Mongolia. The relevant officials are tasked to monitor the loan allocation.

 

The Governors of the aimags are assigned to monitor the quality and safety of reserve meat and provide management.

In total 8000.0 tons of meat will be reserved for the needs of the capital city population in the spring of 2024 and the procurement is at 50-70 percent.

 

At the meeting, a decision to import up to 100 thousand tons of wheat to increase the yield and quality of flour was made.

 

Livestock and meat to be traded at agricultural commodity exchange

The implementation of Government Resolution No.233 on "Some measures to be taken to strengthen macroeconomic stability" was presented.

The Resolution covers a wide range of issues aimed at stabilizing the macroeconomy and increasing the efficiency of economic and business activities.

The relevant officials were tasked to:

-  complete digitalization of permit issuance by the state organizations;

-all businesses, except the types of industries and services that need environmental assessment, are regulated so that they are required to meet standards only.

- launch livestock and meat trading at agricultural commodity exchange to reduce the price of meat sold in cities and increase the income of rural households

- intensify the supply of medicine and medical supplies from a single source;

- promptly implement the measures to increase the passing capacity of Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait auto roads

- put the RFID system into operation immediately to reduce traffic congestion in the capital city

- - take measures to increase tourism and attract external banks to Mongolia

 

By implementing Resolution No. 233 it will be possible to achieve the goals of 7 percent economic growth and a single-digit inflation in 2024.
