Draft Law on Mitigating Challenges and Risks in Livestock Husbandry to be Developed

Ulaanbaatar, March 21, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On March 20, 2024, during a regular session of the Cabinet of Mongolia, D. Amarbayasgalan, Minister of Mongolia and Head of the Cabinet Secretariat, and Kh. Bolorchuluun, Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia, were tasked with developing a draft Law on Mitigating the Negative Impacts of Climate Change on Traditional Livestock Husbandry and a draft Plan of Measures to Ensure the Sustainable Development of Livestock Production and submitting them to the Cabinet.


The adoption of the Law and the implementation of a comprehensive Plan is expected to:

-create a stable supply chain for livestock and livestock-derived products, leading to increased income for herders and a higher standard of living,

-reduce the drift of people from rural areas to the capital, revitalizing the countryside, 

-ensure the stability of livestock production, improve the quality and breeding of livestock, and enable livestock production that meets hygiene standards,

-establish an environmentally friendly and green enterprise that is resilient to climate change and capable of managing risks effectively,

-enhance the utilization of pastures, improve fodder cultivation practices, and upgrade the livestock fencing system,

-maximize the utilization and benefits of government incentives aimed at promoting the livestock production,

-foster public-private partnerships, incorporating input and initiatives from herders and aligning with market principles.
